Muscular dystrophy is a term first coined in the 1890s. It refers to certain hereditary diseases which are characterized Acidreflux progressive degeneration of muscle. There are a number of different kind of dystrophies, but the most common is Duchenne muscular dystrophy Acid Refluxthe Foods To Avoid That Causes Acid Reflux the symptoms are described here.

This is a progressive muscular disease characterized by proximal muscle (the muscles closest to the trunk) weakness and wasting. It primarily affects boys and becomes apparent between the ages of 2 and Acid Reflux years. Progress of the disease is rapid. Walking becomes difficult and by adolescence a wheelchair is usually necessary. The prognosis is poor, death usually occurring during the late teens or early twenties.

Onset of muscular dystrophy is usually around 3-4 years of age. The symptoms of muscular dystrophy or its signs may be recognized earlier or overlooked, depending on the family history. The muscles which first show signs of weakness are those around the hips, thighs and shoulder. There may be delay in walking or failure of the gait to become steady and coordinated. The Acid Reflux Cure may fall frequently without apparent cause. Navigating the steps of stairs is often very difficult. Eventually the gait assumes a characteristic waddle with the feet placed apart and an exaggerated lumbar curve. The child walks on his toes. This allows the line of gravity to fall outside the vertebral column, giving greater stability.

Weakness of the shoulder muscles makes lifting the arms above the head difficult. Tiredness is associated with the increased effort required to perform any gross motor task.
